Waiver Eligibility

The Journal of Environmental Sciences and Technology (JEST) offers a waiver policy to reduce or eliminate publication fees for authors from low- and lower-middle-income countries (LMICs). The goal of this policy is to make JEST more accessible to researchers from all over the world and to promote research on environmental science and technology in LMICs.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for a waiver, authors must meet the following criteria:

  • The corresponding author must be affiliated with an institution in a LMIC.
  • The author must be the corresponding author on the submitted manuscript.
  • The manuscript must be original research that has not been published elsewhere.
  • The manuscript must be of high quality and relevant to the journal's scope.

Waiver Amounts

The amount of the waiver will be determined on a case-by-case basis, but will typically be between 40% and 75% of the publication fee.

How to Apply for a Waiver

To apply for a waiver, authors must submit a waiver request form along with their manuscript. The waiver request form can be found on the JEST website.

The waiver request form should include the following information:

  • Corresponding author's name, affiliation, and contact information
  • Manuscript title and abstract
  • Author's country of residence
  • Author's institution's World Bank income classification
  • Reason for requesting a waiver

Review Process

Waiver requests will be reviewed by the JEST editorial board. The editorial board will consider the following factors when making a decision:

  • The quality of the manuscript
  • The relevance of the manuscript to the journal's scope
  • The author's financial need

Notification of Decision

Authors will be notified of the decision on their waiver request within two weeks of submission.
